Survival

So we survived our first April 15th of our new careers and I survived my first ski season in Utah (resorts in PC closed on the 10th).

Now it’s on to trying to find someplace to live. We’ve looked at a couple of places but most of the area is really outside of our current price range so we’ve got a pretty good challenge on our hands. I’ll keep ya updated.

Like a local or something…

So I’m getting to be more and more like a local… I bought my first set of skis last night. I really feel like I spent a lot more money than I should have (since well, we don’t exactly have a lot of income right now) but at least I bought Demo skis and not brand new so I got a pretty good deal on the skis and bindings.

Now I just need to find some boots and poles that I’m happy with, ok poles are easy and probably cheap as we get closer to the end of the season, boots are another story entirely…

In other news, we went yesterday and got Utah plates for the car. I’ll probably be putting those on tonight but I’d like to find some new nonrusted screws to replace the old ones before I do that. I guess a trip to Home Depot is in order.

Ski Day

So since yesterday was the due date for corporate tax returns, the four of us (Amber’s Parents, Amber and I) thought we’d take a day off to do some midweek skiing. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here almost 6 weeks and not had a chance to go yet. The four of us are headed to Deer Valley for the day (Norm got us comps otherwise I don’t think Amber and I would be willing to spend the money to ski there). I’ll grab the camera and see if I can remember to take a few pictures throughout the day and add them to the gallery.

Here’s to not getting hurt 🙂

In Utah

So here I am living in Utah working at Amber’s Dad’s Office . This really is a great opportunity and it would have been stupid to wait any longer (and risk the opportunity disapearing).

Things definatly work a little differently out here…. we’ve had right around 2 feet of snow in the last week and a half or so and it doesn’t faze anyone. The roads are clear and people don’t forget how to drive everytime it snows…. so odd :-). The other thing that’ll take some getting used to is all the explosions. Every morning after it snows…. the resorts (there are 3 of them in town) have to blast on the mountians as an avalance prevention technique.

Anyway I’m off to work now, maybe I’ll try and update this more often than 2-3 times a year….

No Foolin’

So I’ve been at BBY for a month now and really things are much better than they were that first week or so. I’m much more comfortable there, seen some cool stuff, seen some really crappy stuff, but overall it’s much better… still no VCR though…

On to even better news. On Monday I a second interview at The College of St. Catherine in St Paul. If this works out it’ll be really cool, the pay is better, health insurance would be cool to have, and I can take some classes through the Weekend college or a Masters program. So we’ll see what happens.

Amateur Hour

So the new job… I’m really kinda not so happy with it…

I guess the problem is that I don’t really feel like it’s very professional. Since I’ve been there I’ve seen a lot of A/V equiptment get tested but to do any testing in the lab you have to use the one 47″ HDTV which is fine if you’re testing HDTV stuff but if you’re not it looks like CRAP. The real kicker is that there isn’t standard equiptment. Any good test setup is going to involve comparing to the lab standard but without this everyone has their own idea of what “good” is with no real way to make sure that everyone’s “good” is the same. AND they don’t even have a damn VCR in the place.

It’s just such an amateur hour hopefully I can do something to help the place out before I get too sick of it and jump ship.

Day One at Best Buy

Well I just got home from my first day at Best Buy and I’m not entirely sure what to think of it. It could be really a lot of fun and really quite cool or on the other hand it could be a complete pain to do everyday…. what I am sure of is that it’s not good enough to keep me from looking for other things in the mean time but it’ll definitely be nice to be receiving a paycheck again.

Today I didn’t really do anything of any significance. I did all the usual first day things getting a security badge, keys to the lab, etc. Spent some time looking up prices of DVD Burners for the classroom and sat in on a product demo for some of the buyers of new upscaning DVD players (they convert a regular DVD to HDTV… did a pretty good job at it too but I wouldn’t pay $299-$499 just to get a smidge higher quality).

Random side note for the Ole’s out there…. the on campus Caf is run by Bon Appetite.

New Job, New Website Design

Well I could have posted this on Friday but I just didn’t get around to it until now. Starting on Wednesday I’m going to be working again (I was laid off from Wells Fargo Home Mortage on December 1st) this time in the Best Buy testing labs at the corporate offices in Richfield, MN. It’s just another temp job via Prostaff but it’s a hell of a lot better than daytime TV.

work? what’s that?

Damn it’s been a long time since I’ve done this and since it’s REALLY quiet at work today I decided that I should at least try to post something once in a while. There’s nothing really worth saying today so far. I’m still at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage doing HUD-1 Review. Kinda. So I’m sitting here looking at my pipeline and right now it goes through November 7th and there’s a grand total of 32. That’s really not that good. There were many days where I had to handle 20+ in a single day and now I basically have to just try and look busy while only having 4-6 loans a day to handle. And just to make thinks so much better for all of us here someone in upper management decided that it would be a good idea if we filled every empty desk in the place. So my little team that was bored before actually got 4 new people and thus there is even less work to spread around.

In other News Amber bought herself a new Subaru Outback. It’s a nice little car, fun to drive especially with the heated seats and it appears that it’s going to get decent gas mileage too which is always a plus. Now my goal over the next couple of months is to put some cash away so that I can get myself something new too.

So I think I can find myself something else to do that is actually work related again so I think I’ll go do that instead of rambling here anymore.
